junior church leader, holy trinity broadstairs

Holy Trinity Broadstairs is looking to recruit someone to re-establish and lead their Junior Church group on Sunday mornings, starting ASAP. The role pays £25 per hour and requires a 2-hour commitment every other Sunday during term time, plus 1 hour prep time per session. A budget for materials etc is also available. Optional job-share with another person, and a volunteer from the church community will be available for each session.

Potential candidates must be able to encourage the Christian ethos through a fun, friendly and creative family learning environment.

ROLE: JUNIOR CHURCH LEADER

COMMITMENT: FORTNIGHTLY DURING SCHOOL TERMS (20 WEEKS PER ANNUM)

HOURS: 3 HOURS (1 HR PREP, 2 HOURS: 9.30-11.30 SUNDAYS) EVERY OTHER WEEK

REMUNERATION: £25 PER HOUR


ABOUT THE JUNIOR CHURCH LEADER ROLE

The Junior Church Leader will use their time and skills to develop the experience and provision for the children and young people who attend Junior Church at Holy Trinity, Broadstairs. They will lead in delivering a welcoming and kind experience for all and as such will:

  • have enthusiasm and commitment to the Junior Church, our mission and values.

  • give their commitment of time (3 hours every other week, during term time).

  • work under the direction of the Incumbent, the Churchwardens and with the support of the Parochial Church Council (Holy Trinity PCC).

  • respect all those who attend and volunteer for the Junior Church.

  • undertake training necessary for the role, including Diocesan ‘Enhanced’ Safeguarding Training.

  • be willing to undergo Enhanced DBS Screening for work with children.

PURPOSE OF THIS VOLUNTEER ROLE

Junior Church is integral to our church family. It is a space where we can serve the children and young people of our community and help guide them in their discipleship journey.

We plan to run Junior Church every other Sunday 10.00-11.00am. However, we are open to extending beyond these initially established times and settings to meet the vision we have set and we look forward to working with the new JCC to develop these ideas.

TASK DESCRIPTION

With the support of the Holy Trinity Broadstairs PCC, the new Junior Church Leader will:

  • develop, launch and lead our new Junior Church provision.

  • provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all children and young people as well as their families.

  • plan and run the sessions, being responsible for all planning and delivery of the sessions.

  • greet children promptly, courteously and with a smile.

  • ensure the areas used for Junior Church are clean and tidy for the start and end of the session.

  • prepare drinks and food as required.

  • be familiar with the risk assessment and health and safety requirements; putting the safeguarding and welfare of children at the heart of the sessions.

  • assist with the clearing away of tables, chairs and washing up.

  • be familiar with Christian practise, ideally with a knowledge of Christian religious teachings and bible stories.

  • help to promote the Junior Church within the local community.

  • undertake any other tasks as requested or appropriate within the nature of the role.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION FOR THE ROLE

The ideal candidate will:

  • have experience working with children and young people, ideally in an educational/learning setting.

  • be friendly.

  • be a good communicator.

  • be a team player.

  • have a flexible approach to working.

  • show tact and diplomacy in dealing with a variety of situations.

  • be self-aware and able to use their own initiative.

  • have an understanding of equality and diversity.

  • be encouraging of the Christian ethos of the group.

Desirable but not essential:

  • have experience in working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs.
